Some History…

The village of Clarendon Hills began like many communities along the Burlington Railroad. The rail line, built in 1864, enabled early settlers the opportunity to escape the challenging 19th century urban environment of Chicago. The 1880 census reports 14 families for a total of 66 residents in the village. In 1924, the village was incorporated.

Fifty years later, the Clarendon Hills Historical Society was founded by members of Friends of the Library who recognized the importance of preserving village history.

Centennial Activities

You can view the Clarendon Hills Chronicles, a documentary that celebrates 100 years of Clarendon Hills, made by resident Jake Youngman.

Tour around Clarendon Hills and visit every building that has been with our town since its founding. See the link below for the centennial house tour.

Heritage Hall

Heritage Hall is a historically-themed educational facility and meeting place. It is located in a historical building which originally served as the hub of the village’s water distribution system.

The purpose of the Heritage Hall is threefold:

  • To serve as the home of the CHHS formed in 1963

  • To maintain a permanent venue for publicly displaying historical artifacts and documents of the village and unique items recovered from the Middaugh Mansion

  • To provide a meeting place for small groups of charitable, educational, and social organizations from Clarendon Hills and adjacent communities
